Hypnotherapy

Hypnotherapy is a powerful tool which can help transform the way we think, feel and behave.

Our mind has two parts, the conscious and the unconscious.  The unconscious makes up nearly 90% of our mind and is where all our habits, memories and beliefs are stored.  It’s also responsible for the automatic responses we have to certain stimuli.  It keeps us in physiological balance through our nervous system a large majority of the time, and keeps our thoughts and actions in a consistent manner based on our past experience.  These habits are held in our unconscious mind.

At its core, hypnosis is a profound state of relaxation which brings with it a slightly altered state of awareness in which a person’s unconscious mind becomes open to new perspectives, allowing us to work together to create positive changes to your thought patterns and behaviours.

If you suffer with anxiety, are trying to break a habit or overcome a fear, it can be challenging as the unconscious is resistant to change.  With hypnotherapy together we can tap into that part of your mind and start to reprogram it to think and act in a way that’s more beneficial to you, creating new associations that are in line with your conscious goals.

We naturally enter a hypnotic state many times throughout the day, automatically.  If you’ve ever found yourself engrossed in film or book, oblivious to noise or chatter until someone calls your name, that’s a hypnotic state.  Characterised by a deep state of relaxation and focus you are always in control and aware of anything that might need your attention.  It’s said that all hypnosis is self-hypnosis.

Breaking old habits can be a real challenge, especially when your unconscious tries to remind you of your usual routines.  It’s totally normal to feel uneasy both mentally and physically when you’re trying to change things up.  By working with your unconscious we can figure out what’s going on beneath the surface and help you create new habits and behaviour which feel just as comfortable as the old one.  It’s all about building up new comfort zones that your mind and body can adapt to over time.

Drawing on my additional psychotherapeutic training I can interweave other psychotherapeutic techniques such as Internal Family Systems (I’m IFS informed), Cognitive Behaviour Therapy, Neuro Linguistic Programming, Gestalt Therapy into our work to help you create the changes you want at a pace that suits you.

Sessions are individually tailored using imagery and metaphors based on your world and what you share during the course of our work.  We’ll work together with whatever you decide to bring, at a pace that suits you.
